Nursery & Childcare
Babies and children are welcome in all of our worship services. The best way for children to learn how to behave in church is to come to church regularly. However, if you are more comfortable, nursery and childcare from birth to four years of age is provided by our loving, licensed nursery and childcare workers at all worship services. Nursery Hours are from 7:45 am – 12:00 pm.
At the beginning of our 10:30 am worship service, children ages five through 4th grade are invited to follow the children’s cross with the adult leaders to Children’s Church. They will receive an age-appropriate version of the same lessons and sermon that the adults will hear and participate in prayers before returning to “big” church just before Communion.
Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s body, the Church. A person should be baptised among the community in which they regularly worship and live into their faith. During the Baptisms service, the congregation pledges to do all in their power to support those being baptised in their life in Christ. We are formed and transformed by our faith in community.
At St.Alban’s, we schedule a Baptism Sunday 3 or 4 times a year. If you wish to be baptised or want to have your child(ren) baptised, please contact the Church Office to schedule a meeting with one of the clergy.
Each candidate for Holy Baptism, regardless of age, is to be sponsored by one or more baptised persons, sometimes called godparents.
Sponsors of adults and older children present their candidates and thereby signify their endorsement of the candidates and their intention to support them by prayer and example in their Christian life.
Sponsors of infants and very young children, commonly called godparents, present their candidates, make promises in their own names, and also take vows on behalf of the child. It is fitting that parents be included among the godparents of their own children.
Communion for Children
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” All baptised Christians, regardless of age, are welcome and invited to partake in the sacrament of Communion. Many parents want their children to have some understanding of the Lord’s Supper before they receive. St.Alban’s offers a Communion class (we don’t call it First Communion because even if your child already receives, this class is helpful and you are invited to attend) in the early Fall. The class is for both parents and children and is held for three consecutive Sundays during the Christian Formation hour (9:15 am – 10:15 am). At the 10:30 am service following the third class session, the families who participated in the class will be recognized and gather around the altar to receive communion together before the rest of the congregation. If you are interested in our Communion Class, please contact the Church Office to speak to one of the clergy.
